Why emergency alerts can't be turned off

Tier 3 emergency notifications are always on — here's why.

Written by Andy Peters

Emergency (Tier 3) notifications are always enabled and can't be switched off. When Doorkeep detects a true emergency, someone always gets told.

Why it works this way

Every other notification in Doorkeep is yours to tune. Emergencies are the one exception. A genuine emergency — a life-safety situation, a serious property emergency — is exactly the moment you can't afford a missed alert, so we take the setting out of the equation.

You'll see this on Settings → Notifications under Critical Alerts: Emergency Interactions (Tier 3) is marked Always enabled, with no toggle.

What this means on a call

When Doorkeep detects an emergency, it does what it always does — it detects, connects, and documents. It flags the situation, gets it to a person, and records everything. It never gives the caller safety instructions or tells them what to do; its job is to make sure the right human is reached fast.

What to expect

  • You can't disable Tier 3 alerts, but you can control who is reached on emergencies through your call routing. See how your team is set up under the Assistant.

  • Tier 1 (routine) and Tier 2 (important) notifications remain fully in your control.
