Included minutes and overage charges

What counts as a minute, why they do not roll over, and what overage costs.

Written by Andy Peters

Every Doorkeep plan includes a set number of call minutes each month. If you use more than that, the extra usage is billed at a flat per-minute rate. There is no penalty, no service interruption, and no surprise fee structure.

What is included

  • Starter: 100 minutes each month

  • Professional: 300 minutes each month

Minutes do not roll over

Your included minutes reset at the start of each billing period. Unused minutes do not carry forward, and they cannot be banked for a busier month later.

This keeps the plan simple to predict: you know what you have every month, and there is no balance to track.

What counts as a minute

All connected call time counts toward your included minutes. That includes the AI conversation, hold time, and the transfer leg when Doorkeep connects a caller to you or a member of your team.

In practice: if the line is connected, the clock is running. There is no separate rate for different parts of a call.

What overage costs

  • Starter: $1.50 per additional minute

  • Professional: $2.00 per additional minute

That is the whole overage structure. No tiers, no escalating rates, no minimum overage block.

When overages are billed

Additional usage appears on your next invoice.

If you are on an annual plan, your subscription covers your base plan for the full year. In the rare month where you go past your included minutes, that overage is invoiced separately at the end of that month. Most months there is nothing extra to pay.

If you are consistently going over

Regularly exceeding your minutes usually means the next plan up is cheaper than the overage. You can upgrade from Starter to Professional at any time, and on an annual plan the difference is prorated.

Busy months happen, particularly during leasing season. A single heavy month is not a reason to change plans. A pattern is.

Where to see your usage

Your plan and usage live under Settings > Account. Invoices and receipts are in the Stripe Customer Portal, which the account owner can open from the same place. See How Doorkeep billing works for more.
