Get notified by text (SMS)

Turn on SMS alerts, and fix it when texts stop arriving.

Written by Andy Peters

Doorkeep can text you for time-sensitive events. SMS has two switches — an account-level one and your personal one — plus a STOP/START opt-out that lives on your phone.

Two switches have to be on

  1. Account-level SMS (account owner) — under Settings → Phone, turn on Enable SMS Notifications. This is the master switch for the whole account. If it's off, no one gets texts.

  2. Your personal SMS preference — under Settings → Notifications, in the SMS Notifications section.

If SMS is off at the account level, your personal SMS options are hidden and you'll see a note that account-level SMS needs to be enabled first.

If you replied STOP

Carriers let you opt out of texts by replying STOP — and that blocks Doorkeep texts too. If you've done that, Settings → Notifications will show a notice. To turn texts back on:

  1. Text START to Doorkeep's number.

  2. Refresh the Settings → Notifications page.

Good to know

  • Call-notification texts route to the first contact on your Call List, not everyone on it.

  • SMS is for notifications to you and your team — it isn't general two-way texting with tenants.

What to expect

  • Only the account owner can flip the account-level master switch.

  • After enabling, you'll see a confirmation that SMS notifications are active.
